Job Description:

Position Overview

The Research & Sourcing Associate (AU Market) plays a key role in supporting executive search assignments by identifying and delivering well-targeted candidate shortlists.

Working primarily through desk-based research, this role requires the ability to interpret search briefs, determine effective research strategies, and produce thoughtful, relevant candidate recommendations aligned to each assignment.

A core part of the role is sound judgement and independent thinking. Rather than following briefs mechanically, you will assess both explicit requirements and implied needs, determine where to focus research efforts, and make informed decisions on candidate selection. Each shortlist should be supported by clear written rationale.

While the role requires initiative and autonomy, it is also highly collaborative, with ongoing support, daily communication, and regular feedback from the wider research and operations team.

Key Responsibilities

Candidate Identification & Name Generation

  • Review and assess assignment briefs provided by the Research team
  • Confirm clear understanding of scope, target profile, deliverables, and timelines before starting
  • Ask clarifying questions where requirements are unclear or incomplete
  • Interpret both stated requirements and logical inferences (e.g., adjacent sectors, comparable roles)
  • Conduct detailed research using internal tools (e.g., CRM, historical searches) and external sources (LinkedIn Recruiter, company websites, reports, directories)
  • Produce focused candidate shortlists with concise written rationale for each recommendation
  • Escalate gaps, risks, or key observations identified during research

Research Quality & Judgement

  • Apply critical thinking to evaluate whether criteria will yield strong candidate pools
  • Recommend alternative or broader search strategies when appropriate
  • Make informed decisions on research direction and document reasoning
  • Maintain high-quality, consistent, and justifiable outputs
  • Incorporate feedback to continuously improve research methods and selection

Communication & Remote Working

  • Maintain daily communication with Research and Operations teams via email and Microsoft Teams
  • Ensure full understanding of instructions before starting assignments
  • Raise questions early rather than making assumptions
  • Provide regular progress updates for visibility
  • Participate in briefing and review meetings across AU and UK time zones
  • Manage multiple assignments, prioritising effectively and meeting deadlines

Data Integrity

  • Accurately record candidate data and research notes in CRM systems
  • Follow established naming conventions and data entry protocols
  • Comply with internal SOPs, service standards, and data protection requirements

People & Collaboration

  • Demonstrate company values in day-to-day work
  • Build strong working relationships with research, consulting, and project teams
  • Proactively seek learning and development opportunities
  • Contribute to broader team initiatives as needed

Background & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
  • Experience in research, sourcing, or recruitment (executive search or professional services environment preferred)
  • Proven ability to work remotely and manage workload independently

Key Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking – Interprets briefs effectively and translates them into structured research plans
  • Judgement & Accountability – Makes sound decisions and clearly explains rationale
  • Research Proficiency – Skilled in LinkedIn Recruiter, CRM systems, and open-source research
  • Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy and quality in all outputs
  • Communication – Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Self-Direction – Manages time effectively and works independently within a supported environment
  • Adaptability – Comfortable working across industries, functions, and geographies
