Job Description:

About the Role

We are a growing modular construction company expanding our operations and transitioning part of our estimating function offshore. As our first offshore Senior Modular Estimator, this role is critical in supporting business growth by delivering accurate, commercially sound estimates while coordinating closely with internal teams and clients.

This is a senior, self-managed role suited for an experienced estimator with strong AU-standard estimating exposure, solid construction engineering fundamentals, and the confidence to manage workload, pricing decisions, and client coordination independently.

The role is primarily estimating-focused (around 60% estimating, 40% coordination), handling a steady flow of tenders and confirmed projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating & Commercial Delivery

  • Prepare accurate and commercially sound cost estimates for modular fabrication and construction projects aligned with Australian estimating standards.
  • Interpret and estimate from fabrication drawings, architectural and engineering plans, structural mark-ups, and digital files (including CNC and DXF formats).
  • Manage a daily estimating workload of approximately 3–5 projects per day, including both project tenders and confirmed jobs.
  • Price projects independently up to approximately AUD 3,000; escalate higher-value estimates (e.g., AUD 20,000+) for senior approval as required.
  • Review supplier and subcontractor quotations (e.g., steel suppliers, painters, installers, site welders) to ensure pricing accuracy, feasibility, and realistic lead times.
  • Monitor completed and ongoing jobs to validate estimates against actual costs and delivery performance.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key liaison between internal teams and customers, confidently responding to commercial and technical queries.
  • Manage access to the sales and estimating inbox, responding promptly to quote requests, follow-ups, and customer calls.
  • Coordinate drafting requirements, drawings, and engineering certification with in-house teams and external consultants.
  • Ensure clear handover of approved estimates and successful tenders to the workshop and operations teams, including scope, drawings, and commercial details.
  • Work closely with production teams to understand workshop capacity, schedules, and lead times.

Client & Business Support

  • Build strong internal and external working relationships to support repeat business and future tender opportunities.
  • Demonstrate commercial confidence during customer interactions while maintaining a professional, collaborative approach.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in estimating within modular construction, prefabrication, fabrication, or construction environments.
  • Proven experience working with Australian clients or AU-standard estimating practices.
  • Strong understanding of construction fundamentals and basic engineering principles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and handle workload with minimal supervision.
  • Experience coordinating drafting, drawings, and engineering certification processes.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel for estimating and cost analysis.

Preferred (but not mandatory)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
(degree is not required if the candidate has strong relevant experience).
  • Prior exposure to modular, prefabricated, or off-site construction projects across different modular systems.
  • Experience in mentoring, guiding, or informally managing workloads within a team environment.

Behavioral & Cultural Fit

  • Senior-level professionalism with a humble, friendly, and collaborative mindset
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt within a growing offshore team
  • Confident communicator with sound commercial judgment
